ROBERT BONDARA BACK


Dancer, choreographer, and teacher is an artist of the Polish National Ballet. He is a graduate of the Feliks Parnell State Ballet School in Łódź, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, which he cooperates with as a teacher, and Warsaw School of Economics.

At first he performed at the Music Theatre in Łódź and then he moved to the Grand Theatre in Poznań. In 2005 he joined the Ballet of the Polish National Opera, currently the Polish National Ballet and in 2008 he started cooperating with Aleksandra Dziurosz’s Warsaw Dance Theatre.

He took 2nd prize (no 1st prize was awarded) and the special prize of the Witold Lutoslawski Society at the Bronislava Nijinska National Choreography Competition in Warsaw (2008) and Jan Kiepura Award in the category Choreographer of the Year 2011 in Poland.

He was a finalist of the 27th International Competition for Choreographers in Hannover (2013).

He took part in the Polish National Ballet’s Choreographic Workshops, preparing ballets When You End and I Begin… to the music by Paweł Szymański (later included in the chamber repertoire of the company), The Garden’s Gates to the music by Szábolcs Esztényi, 8m68 to the music by Amon Tobin and Transfer Coefficient to the music by Michał Jacaszek.

In 2011 he was a guest at the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz where he staged his original ballet The Captive Mind inspired by the book by Czesław Miłosz to the music by Philip Glass and Wojciech Kilar. In the same year he created his next original performance Persona to the music by Aldona Nawrocka, Arvo Pärt and Paweł Szymański and in 2013 he staged a performance for the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius called Čiurlionis.

In 2014 he created The Miraculous Mandarin and The Firebird for the Opera House in Wroclaw. In the same year he prepared performance for the Polish National Ballet called Nevermore...?. Choreography was premiered during the 6th Days of Dance Festival in triple bill evening along with Jiří Kylián’s Soldiers’ Mass and Kurt Jooss’ The Green Table.

His choreographies were presented at the Polish Dance Competition in Gdańsk, at the International Gala of Ballet Stars in Szczecin, the 43rd International Dance Festival in Kuopio, in the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, Bergen in Norway, Dance Salad Festival in Houston and in the programmes of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Days of Dance Festival in the Polish National Opera.

Mr. Bondara is currently a Finalist for the 29th International Competition for Choreographers in Hannover, Germany.
