TARA ASHLEY COMPTON - DIRECTOR
Tara Ashley Compton is a native of Louisville, Ky. After dancing through elementary and high school, Tara moved to Tampa, FL where she received a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of South Florida. Tara has choreographed and performed with multiple dance companies around the world, including residencies and debuts in Paris, New York City, Kazakhstan, Spain, Los Angeles, among others.
A former faculty member at Towson University Community Dance Department she also serves as a judge at Dance Masters of America.
She Co-Founded the Company | E Movement Center at the Dance Loft on 14, serving as its Teen Program Director from 2015-2016.
Ms. Compton has traveled internationally through the US Department of State for the past five years teaching contemporary dance in countries such as Algeria, Spain, Kazakhstan, Palestine , Uruguay, Russia and more.
PRE-SCHOOL AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT
GIRLS - Leotard or fitted t-shirt, footless tights or leggings, barefoot
BOYS - t-shirt and leggings or shorts, barefoot
BALLET
GIRLS - Leotard and tights with pink ballet shoes. Short ballet skirt is optional
BOYS - White fitted t-shirt with black tights or leggings. Black ballet shoes
MODERN DANCE
GIRLS - Leotard or fitted t-shirt, footless tights or leggings, barefoot or socks
BOYS - t-shirt and leggings or shorts, barefoot or socks
NO loose or baggy clothing.
HAIR
Long hair should be securely pulled back in a ponytail or bun, out of the face and off the neck.
JEWELRY
No loose jewelry is to be worn during dance class. If jewelry or extra clothes creates distractions for students they will be asked to remove these items until after class.
Students should have proper dance attire for each class. No street clothes or shoes are to be worn in dance class. If students are not prepared they may be asked to observe class and parents will be notified.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Classes start and end on time. If students arrive more than 15 minutes late they may be asked to observe class. It is important to be on time and ready to dance when class starts. This ensures that students are properly warmed up, and serves to prevent injury. Latecomcers can be a distraction to fellow classmates.
MISSED CLASSES
No refunds will be given for missed classes due to illness, family vacations, conflicts with other activities or other scheduling commitments.
PARENT OBSERVATION
Doors to the dance studio will be closed during class time. Parents are allowed to wait in the lobby area or benches in the hallway. All children under 10 years old must have a parent or guardian supervision when not in class. Parents and care-givers must remain outside the double doors on the mezzanine level (second floor).

METROBUS
You can take METROBUS to the MC using either of the 14th Street lines (52, 53, 54) or the 16th Street lines (S1, S2, S3).
METRORAIL
You can take the GREEN LINE to Columbia Heights. The Dance Institute of Washington is two blocks north of the station, which exits at 14th and Irving.
BY CAR
There is limited 2 hour partking surrounding DIW. There are also ample meters on 14th street NW.
PICK UP AND DROP OFF
DIW has a limited Drop Off and Pick Up on the Newton Street, NW.
