On February 24th, 2022 thirty years of world order ended as Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
As a part of Company E's response to that invasion the Company committed itself to commissioning new art from extraordinary Ukrainian artists. Those artists have, over the last two years, created works for audiences in the United States, Europe and in Ukraine itself.
In February 2023, in partnership with the U.S. Mission to the United Kingdom, the company created and curated, alonside a team of Ukrainian and American artists to create "1,000 Candles - a Vigil for Ukraine" which filled London's Trafalgar Square.
The commissions have been funded by Company | E and donors around the world seeking to provide financial support for the artists, whose voices form a vital part of the record of life in Ukraine. Some works have been very intimate. Some have tackled the largest issues and trauma.
Anastasiia Kharchenko, with whom the Company has forged a remarkable relationship, has created deeply personal questions in her solos and duets.
Anastasia Kharchenko fled the devastated town of Irpin, and created her premiere from London. "Fantasy of Touch" reflects the loss of contact from her home, her family, her country and all her loved ones forced to remain behind.
Ukrainian choreographer Vladyslav Detiuchenko, working with composer Ivan Harkusha created "Mariupol" in remembrance of a word, and a city, which has become synonymous with Russian atrocity.
These two works are a sample of the larger program and of the art being created on an ongoing basis.
You can support that work through donation for new commissions, and for performance opportunities to bring the work to wider attention. We have set up a donation page exclusively for Ukrainian artists. 100% of all donations through that link go to new commissions. No administrative fees are held by the Company, ensuring the maximum impact for artists in Ukraine.
