June 11th - on the Boulevard - Downtown Tunis
June 12th - Municipal Theater, Tunis
June 13th - Thuburbo Majus
A cross-cultural collaboration on the streets of Tunis and the Roman Ruins of Thuburbo Majus between Company | E and a team of 25 Tunisian dancers, poets and storytellers. Presented by the Embassy of the United States in Tunisia, U.S. Artists International | Mid Atlantic Arts and the Carthage Dance Festival.
What are the stories which pass us by day after day on the streets on which we walk, drive, stop to a cafe for cofee and conversation? The small snippets of life that drift past, allowing us unintended, brief insight into countless lives.
That question, what are our Sidewalk Stories, is what animates a transnational collaboration on the streets of Tunis, in the National Theater and in the astonishing Roman ruins of Thuburbo Majus - an ancient Punic town occupied and then rebulit by the Roman Emperor Augustus and later Roman Emperors. The Capitolium, built in 168 AD, is the site of a special Sidewalk Stories performance on June 13th.
Company E's engagement at the Carthage Dance Festival was made possible by the Embassy of the United States in Tunisia and by Mid Atlantic Arts.
Sidewalk Stories is a part of Company | E's ongoing work with the U.S. Department of State and a core part of the organization's mission.
